Bible role-play begins:
Narrator
#1: The
pillar of clouds by day and the pillar of fire by night led Moses and the
Children of Israel, also called Israelites and Hebrews, through the desert.
Narrator #2: What is meant by the Children of Israel?
Moses and all the thousands of people with him were the descendants of the 12
sons of Jacob, who was also called Israel.
Narrator
#1: One
day, as they tramped through the desert sands, they became so hot and thirsty.
Narrator #2: It felt like a long time since they had seen
an oasis with trees and ponds of water.
Narrator
#1: The
Ringleaders, those loud, noisy troublemakers, began to whine and complain. They
inspired many people to do the same.
RINGLEADER #1: We are thirsty!
(Group Repeats)
We want water!
(Group Repeats)
Did you bring us here to die?
(Group Repeats)
MOSES: Quiet! Why are
you complaining against me? And why are you testing the Lord?
RINGLEADER #2: Moses, you
better give us water to drink! And do it quickly!
Narrator #2: Moses was probably also thirsty. He prayed
to God, our Great Provider, to fix this problem.
MOSES: Dear God, what
should I do with these people? They are ready to stone me!
Father God: Moses, walk out in front of the people. Take your staff, the one you used when you struck the water of the Nile. I will stand before you on the rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people will be able to drink.
Narrator
#1: So
Moses struck the rock with his shepherd's staff. Phew! Thank goodness! Water
came gushing out.
Narrator #2: There was plenty of water for them all to
drink.
Narrator
#1: Even
the Ringleaders calmed down. The Chant Leaders might have said:
CHANT LEADER #1: Slurp-Slurp!
(Group Repeats)
Yum-Yum!
(Group Repeats)
That water is good!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: God is a great solver of problems!
(Group Repeats)
Thank you, God, for the water!
(Group Repeats)
Narrator #2: So now, not only did they get that sweet
bread called Manna to eat every single day, God had a perfect way to provide
water when there was no oasis in sight.
Narrator
#1: Another
day, the Ringleaders came up with something new to whine and complain about.
RINGLEADER #1: Manna again? Boring!
(Group Repeats)
RINGLEADER #2: We want some animal meat to eat!
(Group Repeats)
Narrator #2: The Chant Leaders, who had faith in God's
ability to provide, might have tried to calm them down with these reminders.
CHANT LEADER #1: Have faith in God!
(Group Repeats)
God is our provider!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: Always remember!
(Group Repeats)
God is good!
(Group Repeats)
MOSES: Dear God, instead
of being grateful for the Manna, the people are complaining again! What should
I do?
Father God: Moses, I have heard the Israelites' complaints. Now tell them, 'In the evening you will have meat to eat, and in the morning you will have all the bread you want. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.
Narrator
#1: That
evening, vast numbers of Quail flew in and covered the camp. FYI – Quail
are similar to small chickens.
Narrator #2: The people happily gathered them, cooked
them, and ate them. Even the Ringleaders had something good to say.
RINGLEADER #1: Yum-Yum!
(Group Repeats)
These Quails taste good!
(Group Repeats)
RINGLEADER #2: They taste like
yummy chicken!
(Group Repeats)
Narrator
#1: The
Chant Leaders were probably relieved that the Ringleaders were not complaining
this time around. They might have said this.
CHANT LEADER #1: Thank goodness God is patient!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: Thank goodness God is slow to anger!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #1: God is loving!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: God truly loves us!
(Group Repeats)
Narrator #2: Early on, God had made this promise to the
Children of Israel. He said:
Father God: If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his
sight, obeying His commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not make
you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who
heals you.
Narrator
#1: Hearing
that, the Chant Leaders happily proclaimed these final words:
CHANT LEADER #1: God is our healer!
(Group Repeats)
God is our provider!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: God is full of power!
(Group Repeats)
God is good!
(Group Repeats)
Narrator #2: END OF SKIT. Let's give our
volunteers a great big hand!
