Moses part 7 of 15

Exodus 8 to 10

Story Highlights:

* Plagues 3-4-Egypt swarmed by gnats then blood-sucking Gadflies

* Plagues 5-7-Livestock died-Skin boils-Gigantic icy hail fell

* Plagues 8-9-Locusts ate most of plants -then Egypt filled with 3-day darkness

 Bible role-play begins:

 

Narrator #1: After the 2nd plague of thousands of frogs invading Pharaoh's palace and all of Egypt failed to convince Pharaoh to let all the Hebrew slaves go, Moses prayed to God as to what he should do next.

 

Narrator #2: Plague by plague, God gave Moses specific instructions on the steps he should take and the words he should say.

Narrator #1: Unfortunately, just like when Pharaoh promised to let the Hebrew slaves go if only the frogs would go away, each promise proved to be a lie.

 

Narrator #2: As soon as God removed the problem or obstacle, Pharaoh's heart would grow hard and stubborn. Then, he would state, "Nope! I will not let the Hebrew slaves go free."

Narrator #1: The 3rd plague involved thousands of gnats biting, flying, and crawling everywhere.

 

Narrator #2: Gnats crawled all over each Egyptian, whether they were rich or poor. They flew into their eyes, their ears, their nostrils, and their mouths.

Narrator #1: Gnats crawled all over their animals, too. Animals and people alike felt miserable.

 

Narrator #2: The magicians told Pharaoh, "This is the finger of God!" But Pharaoh's heart remained hard. He would not let those Hebrew slaves go.

Narrator #1: The 4th plague involved blood-sucking gadflies. Think about being covered with bites similar to mosquito bites all over your face and body.

 

Narrator #2: The 5th plague involved killing most of the Egyptians’ livestock. Only the livestock belonging to the Hebrew slaves were allowed to live.

Narrator #1: The 6th plague involved a painful condition called boils. A stinging and itchy rash and sores covered the bodies of Pharaoh, his magicians, and every Egyptian.

 

Narrator #2: Before the 7th plague of giant balls of icy hail falling from the sky, God gave Pharaoh and his people fair warning. Through Moses, he said this.

 

 Father God: Let my people go. If you don't, I will send more plagues on you, your officials, and your people. Then you will know that there is no one like me in all the earth. By now, I could have lifted my hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you off the face of the earth. But I have spared you for a purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth. But you still lord it over my people and refuse to let them go. So tomorrow, at this time, I will send a hailstorm more devastating than any in all the history of Egypt. Quick! Order your livestock and servants to come in from the fields to find shelter. Any person or animal left outside will die when the hail falls.

Narrator #1: The Egyptians who wisely brought their people and animals into shelters lived.

 

Narrator #2: The ones who ignored God's warning were either badly injured or killed by the crushing, pounding hail.

Narrator #1: The hail also killed and destroyed many plants, crops, and trees. As always, God made sure to keep all the Hebrew slaves safe.

 

Narrator #2: The 8th plague involved locusts that looked a bit like grasshoppers.

Narrator #1: These thousands of locusts appeared and ate up all the plants, all the fruit and leaves on the trees, and all the crops.

 

Narrator #2: The locusts also filled the palace and the Egyptians' homes.

Narrator #1: Pharaoh once again promised to let the Hebrew slaves go if the locusts would disappear. Naturally, that was a lie, as well.

 

Narrator #2: The 9th plague was perhaps the oddest one of all. Have any of you ever been scared of the dark?

Narrator #1: Imagine a dark so deep that you cannot even see your hand in front of your face.

 

Narrator #2: Imagine a dark so deep that no light, fire, candle, or lantern will shine.

Narrator #1: That is what happened for three days in all parts of Egypt except where the Hebrew slaves lived.

 

Narrator #2: This darkness was so scary that the Egyptian people were afraid to move even one inch.

Narrator #1: But as soon as the 3 days of darkness ended, Pharaoh once again refused to let the Hebrew slaves go.

 

Narrator #2: Next week, you will hear about the 10th plague that convinced Pharaoh he must finally say "YES" instead of "NO."
