Genesis 6:16 to 7:24

Story highlights:

* God covenanted to save Noah from worldwide flood

* God chose all male & female animal pairs for Noah's Ark

* God sealed door of ark to save Noah’s family of 8 & animals from flood

Bible role-play begins:

Narrator #1: One hundred years had passed since Father God instructed the now 600-year-old Noah to build a giant boat called an ark.

Narrator #2: Dozens of people may have gazed up at the sky and then at a giant boat sitting in the middle of dry land and rolled their eyes.

Narrator #1: Knowing that the ark was big enough to hold dozens of people, Noah might have warned, "You must change your wicked ways to escape God's judgment."

Narrator #2: Did they listen? No. Instead, they allowed the devil to tempt them into continuing to do so many sinful things.

Narrator #1: The ark was three stories tall. It had a roof to keep them dry, a window that could be opened or closed, and only one large door.

Narrator #2: The ark also had multiple rooms fully stocked with food to keep eight people and hundreds of animals well-fed and healthy.

Narrator #1: During those hundred years that Noah spent building the ark, he, his sons, his wife, and his son's wives reminded themselves of the promise given by Father God.

Father God: I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.

Narrator #2: Those were terrifying words! Thankfully, Father God made a covenant with Noah. A covenant is a solemn promise guaranteed to come true.

Father God: But, Noah, I will establish my covenant with you. You will enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.

Narrator #1: Father God also alerted Noah that it was their responsibility to shelter and take care of two of every kind of bird and animal that moves along the ground.

Narrator #2: When there were only 7 days left, Father God must have carefully selected a worthy male and female of each kind of animal.

Narrator #1: With gigantic animals like elephants, giraffes, and dinosaurs, Father God probably picked out ones that were not yet full-grown so that they would easily fit inside the ark.

Narrator #2: Perhaps Father God informed slow-moving creatures like tortoises and snails to begin walking right away to Noah's Ark as they would need more time to get there than fast-moving creatures like Cheetahs, ostriches, horses, kangaroos, and antelopes.

Narrator #1: When Noah and his sons completed all of Father God's commands, Father God said:

Father God: Noah, because I have found you righteous in this generation, you and your family may safely enter the ark. Seven days from now, I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights. I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.

Narrator #2: In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month, Noah and his wife walked up the ramp and entered the ark.

Narrator #1: Shem and his wife, Ham and his wife, and Japheth and his wife followed them.

Narrator #2: Noah and his family probably worked together to pull the ramp inside the ark.

Narrator #1: After the eight people and hundreds of pairs of every kind of animal were safely inside, Father God Himself closed and sealed the door shut.

Narrator #2: Try to picture it. From inside the ark, you hear torrential rain begin to fall. You also hear your neighbors screaming for help.

Narrator #1: Perhaps some of them were people you liked. Even if they all were your enemies, wouldn't your heart still grieve at the thought of them drowning?

Narrator #2: Then, imagine you feel the ark lurch from one side to the other as the ark begins to float.

Narrator #1: Your heart might do a double beat as you remind yourself of Father God's promise to keep you safe.

Narrator #2: The rain fell for 40 days and 40 nights. The flood became so deep that it covered the highest mountains and the tallest trees.

Narrator #1: Noah had no rudder with which to steer the boat. Father God was the one who directed the ark in the direction He wished it to go.

Narrator #2: Genesis 7:21 Every living thing that moved on land perished - birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all humankind. (NIV)

Narrator #1: Genesis 7:23B Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. (NIV)

Narrator #2: Genesis 7:24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. (NIV)
