Bible role-play begins:
Narrator
#1: At
the top of Mt. Sinai, our Almighty God spent 40 days teaching Moses all
the laws and rules to teach the Children of Israel.
Narrator #2: God also gave Moses two stone tablets
listing the 10 Commandments.
Narrator
#1: Sadly,
in the valley below, most of the Children of Israel were busy breaking the
first 2 of the 10 Commandments.
Narrator #2: The Chant Leaders had tried and failed to
stop them by reminding them of God's words, which they had all heard not that
long ago.
CHANT LEADER #1: Obey God's 1st
commandment.
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: God told us only
to worship Him!
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #1: Obey God's 2nd
commandment.
(Group Repeats)
CHANT LEADER #2: God told us not
to worship idols.
(Group Repeats)
Narrator
#1: But
the Ringleaders, those noisy troublemakers, led many of the people into
rebelling against those two commandments.
RINGLEADER #1: We want a god we
can see and touch!
(Group Repeats)
RINGLEADER #2: Make us a god to
worship.
(Group Repeats)
Narrator #2: So, Aaron took up a collection of gold
earrings. He melted the gold and created a golden calf.
Narrator
#1: Did
the Ringleaders really believe it was true that it was the golden calf, that
false god, that led them out of Egypt and parted the Red Sea?
Narrator #2: Did the people actually believe that it was
this false god, a calf made of gold, who caused that sweet Manna bread to rain
down every morning?
Narrator
#1: That
sounds ridiculous! Perhaps they were looking to mimic the Egyptians, who ate,
drank, and partied while worshipping their false gods.
Narrator #2: Meanwhile, on the top of the mountain, God
said this to Moses.

Father God: Quick, Moses! Go
down the mountain! Your people whom you brought from the land of Egypt have
corrupted themselves.
MOSES: Oh, no! What did they do, Lord?
Father God: They have melted
down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They
are even telling each other that it was this false god, instead of Me, the one
and only God, that created all the miracles they have witnessed.
MOSES: Oh, no! What will happen now?
Father God: I have seen how
stubborn and rebellious these people are. Now leave me alone so my fierce anger
can blaze against them, and I will destroy them. Then I will make you, Moses,
into a great nation.
Narrator
#1: But
Moses tried to pacify the Lord his God. Moses pleaded:
MOSES: Oh, Lord! Please
do not be so angry. Please change your mind about this terrible disaster you
have threatened against your people. Remember the promise you made to your
servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that they would have as many descendants as
the stars of heaven, who would later inherit the Promised Land of Canaan.
Narrator #2: So, the Lord changed his mind about
the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on His people.
Narrator
#1: Then
Moses descended the mountain, carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the
10 Commandments.
Narrator #2: Moses burned with anger when he saw the
people shouting and dancing around the golden calf.
Narrator
#1: Moses
threw the stone tablets to the ground, smashing them at the foot of the
mountain.
Narrator #2: Moses took the golden calf that Aaron had
made and burned it in the fire.
Narrator
#1: Moses
ground that gold into powder, threw it in the water, and forced the people to
drink it.
Narrator #2: As you can see, Moses was mad, mad, MAD!
He then turned to his older brother, Aaron, and asked:
MOSES: Aaron, what did
these people do to you to make you bring such terrible sin upon them?
AARON: Don't get so
upset, my lord. You yourself know how evil these people are. They said to me, 'Make us gods who will lead us. We don't know what
happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.' So I told them,
'Whoever has gold jewelry, take it off.' When they brought it to me, I threw it
into the fire—and out came this calf!
Narrator
#1: Moses
saw that Aaron had let the people get completely out of control, much to the
amusement of their enemies. Moses announced:
MOSES: All of you who
are on the Lord's side, come here and join me.
Narrator #2: Aaron, his 4 sons, and all the Levites, the
descendants of Levi, quickly gathered around Moses.
Narrator
#1: As
for the rest of the people, the Lord sent a great plague because they
had worshiped the calf Aaron had made.
Narrator #2: Many people got sick. Some even died.
Narrator
#1: We
can imagine that the Ringleaders, if they survived, realized that it is not a
good idea to rebel against the Lord our God.
Narrator #2: END OF SKIT. Let's give our
volunteers a great big hand!
