Exodus 2 & Acts 7

Story Highlights:

* Moses ran for his life after killing cruel Egyptian overseer.

* Moses became shepherd for Priest of Midian & his 7 daughters.

* Moses wed Zipporah and had 2 sons: Gershom and Eliezer.

Moses role-play part 3 begins:

Narrator #1: We will now hear the story about the second set of 40 years of the life of Moses.

 

Narrator #2: As you likely recall, Moses was born a Hebrew slave. Since the evil Pharaoh wished to kill all baby boys, his mother had to give birth to him in secret.

Narrator #1: She managed to keep him hidden for the first 3 months of Moses' life.

 

Narrator #2: But finally, in her desperate effort to save his life, she built a seaworthy basket in which to place her baby boy.

Narrator #1: She hoped that if she floated him down the Nile River, he would somehow be found and rescued.

 

Narrator #2: Sure enough, the daughter of Pharaoh found him. She decided to raise this Hebrew baby boy as an Egyptian prince.

Narrator #1: Moses lived the pampered life of a prince of Egypt for 40 years.

 

Narrator #2: Sometime during that period, he learned he was actually a Hebrew, not an Egyptian.

Narrator #1: When he saw a cruel overseer whipping a Hebrew slave, he jumped in to rescue the slave.

 

Narrator #2: In the process of rescuing him from torture, he killed the Egyptian man.

Narrator #1: Moses hoped that no one had seen what he had done. Unfortunately for him, it appeared that word had gotten out.

 

Narrator #2: When Moses realized that his own adopted grandfather wished to kill him in revenge, Moses ran for his life.

Narrator #1: Moses fled to the land of Midian, which was 200 or more miles from Egypt.

 

Narrator #2: Worn out from his long, fearful journey, Moses sat down to rest beside a well.

Narrator #1: The priest of Midian had seven daughters. As they did every day, they came to the well to water their father's flocks of sheep and goats.

 

Narrator #2: Moses looked up and saw some shepherds trying to chase away those seven women with their flocks.

 

Narrator #1: As you know, Moses did not like to see anybody bullied, especially not seven women.

 

Narrator #2: So, Moses jumped up and rescued those women from those selfish shepherds.

 

Narrator #1: Then, Moses went to the well and drew water for those women's flocks.

 

Narrator #2: When the seven women returned to their father, he asked in surprise, "Why are you back so soon today?"

 

Narrator #1: One of his daughters replied, "Father, an Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds. And then he drew water for us and watered our flocks."

 

Narrator #2: The Priest of Midian asked, "Daughters, then, where is he? Why did you leave him there? By all means, go back and invite him to come and eat with us."

 

Narrator #1: Moses gladly accepted their invitation. He ended up settling down with them.

 

Narrator #2: Moses agreed to become a shepherd who would help look after the sheep and goats belonging to the Priest of Midian.

Narrator #1: Eventually, the Priest of Midian gave Moses his daughter Zipporah [zuh-paw-ruh] to be his wife.

 

Narrator #2: Moses and his wife had two sons — the first they named Gershom [GER-shum]. The second, they named Eliezer [eh-lee-ay-zr].

Narrator #1: All in all, 40 years have passed. By the time Moses turned 80, the Pharaoh who wished to kill Moses had died.

 

Narrator #2: As for Moses' people, the poor Israelites, they continued to groan under their harsh burden of slavery.

Narrator #1: They cried out to God for help. Their mournful, pleading cry rose up to God.

 

Narrator #2: God heard their groaning. He remembered his covenant promise He had made to Abraham, then his son, Isaac, and then his son, Jacob.

Narrator #1: What was that covenant promise God had made to them?

 

Narrator #2: God had promised to make them a great nation, give them their own land, in Canaan, and that one of Abraham’s descendants would be a blessing to all nations. Who was that descendant?

Narrator #1: This covenant promise was fulfilled by the birth, life, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Savior, and King of kings.

 

 

Narrator #2: Therefore, God looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.

Narrator #1: And that completes the story of the second 40 years of the life of Moses.
